Rótulo Convento de San Esteban

This was begun in 1524, the architect and director of the work being the maestro Juan de Alava. Its greatest artistic interest lies in the façade, whose ornamental details sparkle and resonate in harmony with the sunlight.

The Portal is one of the purest examples of Renaissance architecture from the last third of the sixteenth century.

The church is a repetition of the type of temple created in the times of the Catholic Monarchs. Its main altar is the work of José Churriguera.

The cloister is Gothic but decorated with Renaissance forms. Among the portals of the cloister, the most beautiful is by Rodrigo Gil de Hontañon and leads to the staircase. The other portals, from the sixteenth century, imitate this and were worked by Sardiña.
