Rótulo Catedral Vieja

The old Cathedral is one of the eminent monuments of Romanesque art. Following the purest lines of this style it represents the grace of a Romanesque pilar. Dating from the twelfth century, the whole is flourished by the Torre del Gallo, with its double window and strong ribbing.

In sculpture, the sepulchres from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries are key notes and in painting, the decorations of the sepulchres and of the chapel of San Martin are a very pure example of the style of the thirteenth century, of French influence.

The Patio Chico offers one of the most attractive corners of Salamanca, comprising semicircular apses with a cupola, designated Torre del Gallo from the shape of its wind vane, derived from Byzantine and Arquitane influences.
